DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to be joining forces with the incredible Boise Phil and Maestro Eric Garcia to produce a unique performance of music and dance together on stage. \nThe Phil will open the show with a tribute to classical ballet’s most iconic composer\, with Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty Suite. \nIn the second act\, we will see the music take physical form with two very different choreographic and musical compositions. Opening the act is Terence Marling’s Twice (Once) set to the gorgeous music of contemporary composer Anna Clyne’s Within Her Arms. This is a subtle\, yet stirring piece that contemplates the afterlife\, drawn from very personal experiences of both composer and choreographer. Closing out the program is Justin Peck’s heralded Pulcinella Variations set to the jubilant and complex music of Igor Stravinsky’ score of the same name. Created for the New York City Ballet\, this work exemplifies all of the dynamic range and technical invention and virtuosity that Peck is famous for and our dancers exemplify so well. \nPreview the Magazine >>

DESCRIPTION:The Ballet Theatre of Maryland presents Napoli! \nThis sunny story ballet takes place in the city of Naples\, where a plucky fisherman named Gennaro endeavors to marry his beloved Teresina. The warmth and color of Napoli is on display as the two lovers convince Teresina’s mother to allow them to marry\, survive a shipwreck\, and brave the wicked sea demon of the Blue Grotto in order to find their happy ending. \nChoreographed by August Bournonville in 1842\, Napoli is a gem of the Romantic Ballet tradition. Inspired by Bournonville’s travels to Naples\, the production will delight audiences with its warm and energizing dances. Keep your eyes peeled in Act III for the show-stopping tarantella! It also features Bournonville’s rapid\, virtuosic jumps and turns that will keep audiences on the edge of their seat. \nWith themes of faithfulness and love everlasting\, Napoli is a family-friendly treat!
