Essential item in your dance bag?
My PerfectFit toe pads are a MUST. I don’t know what I would do without them! Peanut butter pretzels are also essential for a little pick-me-up during a break.
Movie you can re-watch till the end of time?
Bridesmaids. I can basically recite the whole movie. I love Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph. Their friendship in the movie reminds me a lot of one of my best friends.
Dancer who’s inspired you?
Sofiane Sylve, ever since I saw her perform Forsythe’s In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated with San Francisco Ballet. I remember just being in awe of her strength and how much space she could take up onstage. I was lucky enough to watch her in rehearsals when I was in SF Ballet School and also take class from her. I learned a lot about the purity of classical ballet technique from her, which still inspires my dancing today.
Song/artist/playlist you’ve been playing on repeat?
The Wicked soundtrack has been playing in my head ever since I saw the movie. I’m a sucker for musicals and I absolutely love the music in Wicked! Also, Wild Rivers Radio on Spotify has been my go-to playlist in the car or at home getting ready, when I’m not listening to Armchair Expert (my favorite podcast).
Least favorite dance step?
Hops on pointe . . . especially on one leg. Why does that step exist?
How do you like to spend your time outside of dance?
When I’m not busy with ballet, I try to soak up all the beauty the PNW has to offer. I love going on hikes in Forest Park with my husband (Chris) and our two dogs (Dexter and Rocco), paddle boarding at Sauvie’s in the summer, or taking a trip to Hood River to visit some orchards. On weekends, we enjoy exploring a new Portland neighborhood or park and discovering another yummy restaurant. On evenings when I get home from work, I am a bit more of a home-body. I like cooking a cozy meal and sitting down to watch a movie or a suspenseful series. I just finished Season 1 of Severance and I am hooked!
Best place to hang out in your company’s home city?
During these cold months in Portland, I love going to Blue Moon Tavern on NW 21st with my husband. We sit next to the indoor fireplace and order some food and a hot beverage. We’ll usually play a game of pool or shuffle board while we’re there too. The only thing missing is a ping pong table!
Dream role?
I would love to perform Wayne McGregor’s Chroma. I saw SFB perform this ballet many years ago and was very inspired. The movement is very physical and the pas de deux are beautiful. I know I would really enjoy it.
Go-to coffee shop order
Extra hot coconut milk latte. If I’m wanting something a little extra special, then it’s a dirty chai.
Essential post-show ritual?
Usually when I get home from a show, I will shower and make some food. Potstickers are definitely a go-to for me. It takes me a while to wind down from the show adrenaline, so I like to watch some mindless TV while relaxing on the couch or rolling out on my rug. Reality shows like The Bachelorette or Love Is Blind are the perfect remedy to shut my mind off and get ready for sleep.
