San Francisco Ballet Announces Company Roster for 2023 Season

Katherine Barkman Joins as Soloist
Effective July 1, 2021

San Francisco Ballet (SF Ballet) today announced details of its 2023 Season roster, including the appointment of Katherine Barkman as Soloist, effective July 1. The roster also includes the previously announced appointment of Isaac Hernández as Principal Dancer, and the promotions of seven SF Ballet School alumni to the Corps de Ballet.

A native of Philadelphia, Katherine Barkman is currently a principal dancer at The Washington Ballet, following three years as a principal dancer at Ballet Manila. Her roles have included Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Kitri in Don Quixote, Giselle in Giselle, and Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty (“a jewel of a ballerina, with her pure, effortless technique and easy charm,” wrote The Washington Post). Barkman’s repertory also includes neoclassical ballets by George Balanchine and Sir Frederic Ashton, and contemporary works by Annabelle Lopez-Ochoa and Dana Genshaft. Barkman’s full biography can be found here.

Isaac Hernández was recently appointed Principal Dancer at San Francisco Ballet after previously dancing in the Company’s corps de ballet and as a soloist in 2010. Hernández has danced with ABT II and as a principal with the Dutch National Ballet and English National Ballet, and has guested at Paris Opera, Teatro Colón, Rome Opera, and Mariinsky Theatre.

Following the upcoming August 5–6 performances at Stanford Live and Nutcracker in December, SF Ballet’s 2023 Season opens January 20, 2023 with next@90, a new works festival featuring nine world premieres and celebrating the Company’s 90th Repertory Season, featuring the work of choreographers Nicolas Blanc, Bridget Breiner, Robert Garland, Benjamin Millepied, Yuka Oishi, Yuri Possokhov, Jamar Roberts, Danielle Rowe, and Claudia Schreier. More details will be announced this fall.
