Citizens Opera House | September 10–20, 2026

Alexander Ekman’s Cacti brings humor, live music, and playful surprise to the stage, gently poking fun at how we watch and interpret art while celebrating rhythm, precision, and joy. Akram Khan’s Vertical Road (Reimagined) 2023 offers a powerful contrast—an immersive, elemental work that draws audiences into a shared journey of movement, ritual, and transformation.

Together, these ballets showcase the range of contemporary dance, from witty and irreverent to visceral and deeply moving. Whether you’re new to contemporary dance or simply curious, this program promises an engaging program of live performance that is best experienced together in the theater.

Mikko Nissinen’s The Nutcracker is a joyful holiday tradition that brings families and friends together to share the magic of live ballet. The 2027 Spring Experience brings together three George Balanchine masterworks—Gounod Symphony, Mozartiana, and The Four Temperaments—curated by Suzanne Farrell, one of Balanchine’s most celebrated muses. Through her deep personal connection to the choreography, audiences are invited to see these ballets with fresh clarity and insight, shaped by Farrell’s understanding of Balanchine’s musicality, style, and intention.

Under her guidance, Boston Ballet’s dancers bring these works vividly to life, revealing the precision, purity, and expressive power at the heart of Balanchine’s vision. From the sweeping ensemble patterns of Gounod Symphony, to the luminous reverence of Mozartiana, to the striking individuality of The Four Temperaments, this program offers a rich and illuminating experience—honoring Balanchine’s legacy through Farrell’s expertise and the exceptional artistry of Boston Ballet.
