Essential item in your dance bag?
I have a muscle hook I call Pikachu because it’s yellow and shaped like his tail. I use it to massage my back, shoulders, and legs. It’s compact and versatile, so it goes with me everywhere, even when I travel.

Movie you can re-watch till the end of time?
The Lord of the Rings. I could go into detail on the reasons why, but it would be a six-hour Ted talk.

Dancer who’s inspired you?
I’ve had the great pleasure of dancing with and alongside former principal dancer Alison Roper throughout all of my formative years in the company. Her work ethic and commitment in the studio was hard to miss, and I’ve endeavored to maintain the same level of dedication and professionalism in my own work as an artist, in the hopes of passing that along to the next generation.

Song/artist/playlist you’ve been playing on repeat?
Loreena McKennitt is one I go back to so often. She takes me to other worlds.

Least favorite dance step?
A scissor jeté. I love the look of it, but it always hurts so much when I try to do it myself.

How do you like to spend your time outside of dance?
I own a photography business where I photograph families and weddings, so that’s one of my favorite creative outlets outside of the ballet studio. Beyond that, if I’m out of the house, you’ll find me hiking through the forest or paddling a river somewhere in my kayak, always with camera in hand. If I’m at home, I’m most likely baking a pie.

Best place to hang out in your company’s home city?
Tryon Creek Park is a little slice of paradise. A haven of mystical musings. A dell of magic and melancholy.

Dream role?
Romeo. I have some of my best memories from playing that role.

Go-to coffee shop order?
From February through September it’s going to be a simple latte. Always hot. October through January brings the dirty chai.

Essential post-show ritual?
A nice hearty meal (preferably a burger and tots) and some decompression time on the couch listening to music.
